Robinson Motor Sports Inc was formed in 1989 by Mick Robinson.

Mick started racing in 1979 after attending the British School of Motor Racing in Riverside, California.

After the school, Mick helped out a GT team that raced a Porsche 911 in the IMSA GT series for 2 years, while working full time in the aviation industry. He also purchased a Datsun (Nissan) 510 to race in the IMSA Champion Spark Plug Challenge.

After 2 years of racing the Datsun with the highest place finishing position of 5th in a 70 car field at Sebring, Mick sold the Datsun and moved to the SCCA with a Crossle Formula Ford.

Two seasons with a low budget, Mick finished in the top 3 in 3 National races and sold the Formula Ford.

He went bass fishing for a year before the racing bug bit again, and this time it really got a hold of Mick.

In 1986, Mick purchased a brand new Sports Renault that he would race in the SCCA. In his first year of national racing with the car, Mick earned a spot in the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs at Road Atlanta.

He earned a fully sponsored season in 1987 which also included a run in a Porsche 911 at Sebring where the team finished 5th in the GTU class. The Runoffs were again attended, but his attempt at the national title failed because of an accident in the race.

In 1989, several racers approached Mick about taking care of their Spec Racers and supporting them at the local SCCA races. The drivers of those cars immediately became front runners and race winners in the races, while the reliability of their cars was dramatically improved.

In 1993, SCCA Enterprises approached Mick to offer him the opportunity to become the Customer Service Representative for the Florida territory. Mick accepted the offer. In 1993, Robinson Motor Sports (RMS) became incorporated and the commercial side of racing was entered.

Mick continued to grow the business, soon becoming the largest CSR in the country in parts sales and Spec Racer car kits sold. RMS is still the number one rated CSR in the country.

His in-house customer car business now stands at over twenty individual cars. Race results continued to improve with several regional champions and numerous race wins each year.

Along with in-house cars, RMS has five cars that are provided for interested customers to rent.

To help with this expanding business, Mick hired Mark Eaton in 1992.

A racer in his own right, Mark had done several years of racing go karts with numerous wins under his belt. Mark showed the talent that was needed to maintain the Spec Racers to the highest of standards.

In 1994, Mark purchased a used Spec Racer and immediately won his first race.

Mark continued with his racing effort moving to the national race series where he was a multiple race winner in the Spec Racer earning an invitation to the SCCA

National Championships in 1997 and 2006.

His racing took him to a sponsored ride in the Grand Am in a Marcos GT for a 2 race stint. His talent was then used by a team that raced in the Grand Am Cup series for a full year with several top 10 qualifying runs with top 10 finishes.

Mark's focus was returned to RMS where Mick sponsored him under the RMS banner in the new Formula Enterprises Van Diemen that the SCCA was now marketing thru the Customer Service network.

Eaton immediately again was on the podium with several wins in his first year in the car.

In 2007, with 3 wins in 3 races, Mark was entered in the ARRC race to determine the FE national champion. In a 40 car field, Mark won the race, with 2 other RMS customers finishing second and third. A sweep of the podium by RMS prepared cars!

Mark continued his chase for a perfect season in the RMS sponsored FE in 2008. He set 2 track records and won 7 of 8 races, with his only non-winning race a DFN after an accident. In 2008 he had a dream national race season winning the S.E. Division points, the June sprints and followed that up with a win at the National Championship Runoffs in Topeka for the rare Triple Crown of SCCA racing.

Mark became the RMS team manager and has provided an outstanding reputation for RMS in car reliability, safety, and speed.

Hector De La Torriente joined RMS in 2001. Hector was a true fan of the sport, attending races as a spectator for several years. After joining the team full time, he quickly learned what it takes to prep and tune the cars to the high standards of RMS. His unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to the team was a huge help in continuing the reputation of RMS as the top race shop in the country for the SRF's and FE cars.

Hector worked his way in RMS to eventually become another sponsored driver in 2003. RMS put him in a Spec Racer for a driver school at Roebling Road where he immediately showed that he had the talent to be a consistent and quick driver.

With the help of the RMS coaching program that RMS had used for years of helping new drivers, Hector quickly improved his race results with his first race win in the SRF in 2006 at Roebling Road. He then continued on to win 9 races in 2007 and become the 2007 SCCA SARRC Champion.

New and experience drivers benefit from the driving instruction that is provided by Mick, Mark, and Hector. We also use video and the CDS data systems to improve on the driver's ability to run fast quickly.

It is the policy of Mick, the business owner, to have all of his employees drive the Spec Racers while in their employ to learn the stress and butterflies that a driver has when he is new to racing. This helps the employees understand the environment that new drivers go thru when entering this sports. It allows all of the RMS employees to provide a great service to the drivers and customers.
