A week after winning both of the Formula Enterprises SCCA National Championship Points races at Sebring International Raceway, Matthew Mair was again trying to accomplish the feat at the Florida Region SCCA's Double National Points Races.
Matthew Mair and his family arrived at Miami-Homestead Speedway on Saturday morning to complete the qualifying session for the Saturday portion of the double race weekend. Mair outran the field by a second to capture the pole position for the afternoons race.
On the start, Matthew pulled away from the field of 8 FE;'s and established a comfortable lead that he held for the entire race length. Capturing his race win on Saturday, had him in a 3 race roll, also winning the 2 previous races at Sebring the weekend before.
Sunday was the same result in qualifying, Mair won the pole but only by .7 seconds this time over a determined Chirs Eveland who was also under the RMS care for the weekend. The race started with Mair getting the jump over Eveland, allowing Wally Osinga up to second, but Eveland was making a charge through the field making up lost positions as the race continued. Mair eventually pulled out a comfortable lead, but Eveland, Osinga, Feghali and other battled nose to tail for the rest of the top 3 positions. In the end, it was Mair by 5 seconds over the battling Eveland, Feghali and Osinga.
This gave Mair 4 straight national race wins which practically has him already qualified for the 2011 SCCA National Championship races to be held at Road America Raceway in Wisconsin. With a few more races on his schedule, the high school junior hopes to be the 2011 FE National Champion.
