Mair Wins Watkins Glen National, Sets Track Record

Matthew Mair was determined to do well at the Watkins Glen SCCA National race on July 10th, 2010.  He needed one more race to complete his requirements to be qualify for the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America on Sept. 26, 2010.

"The RMS guys did a lot of work to the car after my second place finish at the SCCA FE Pro Race in Utah.  We finished second, and that's not good enough for the RMS guys" Matthew said upon arrival at The Glen.  "We have a new engine which I broke in at Palm Beach two weeks ago with the new Valvoline oils and we are determined to have a win at this National race."

If he sounds confident, he is.  There is no room for error on either the crew's or the driver's part.  Robinson Motor Sports is in this to win, plain and simple.  Matthew drives one of the Robinson Motor Sports rental FE's for his 2010 season which is prepared by the Team Manager Mark Eaton who himself is the SCCA's 2008 and 2009 FE National Champion.

"Matthew is a very focused young man" team owner Mick Robinson said.   "He and his father came to us late in 2009 with the intentions of being the 2010 SCCA Club Racing FE National Champion. From the first weekend he drove the car, he adapted to it and has made progress to where he is now considered one of the top drivers in the class in the country."

The proof of this was Matthew's performance at The Glen. He had not been to the track before, his first on track session was the Friday qualifying session.  He was the second fastest FE when the session ended!  He improved to be on the pole after the second qualifier.  In the race, he dominated from start to finish with an 11 second lead at the end of the race.  He set the track record by 2.498 seconds. This makes 3 wins out of the 4 national races he had competed in during the 2010 season.  His only non winning race was in a down pour at Sebring that caught him out and he spun during the race, while leading.

While he and his father's intentions are to be the 2010 FE National Champion, they are fighting to win the inaugural 2010 SCCA Pro Racing Formula Enterprises championship too!  "Oh yes, the Robinson guys are doing a great job for us" Mike beamed after the Watkins Glen win.  "Mark and Mick take care of all of the weekend's necessities and the car is just great!"  Not to mention that Matthew drives it!!

With the win at The Glen, Matthew is now qualified for the Natiional Championship race on Sept 16, 2010 at the challengine Road America circuit in Wisconsin.  He is favored as one of the guys to beat for the championship!

Mair and Robinson Team to Win Homestead

Matthew Mair and Mick Robinson teamed up for a 1.5 hour endurance SCCA race at Homestead on June 13 in a Robinson Motor Sports Spec Racer.  Matthew qualified the Robinson Motor Sports SRF Parts online sponsored Spec Racer on the pole.  After running 45 minutes in the heat of South Florida, Matthew had a commanding lead in the race and pitted to for fuel and to turn the car over to team owner Mick Robinson.

"I had a huge lead that Matthew delivered to me for my stint"  Mick said after the race.  "I just had to keep it on track and an eye on the mirror to stay ahead of the second place car."  He did just that!  The duo won the reace beating an ITS Acura by 48 seconds to claim the over all race win.

Matthew is currently 3rd in points in the Formula Enterprises SCCA Pro Racing series.  He used a Spec Racer for the Homestead race for additional seat time to help him stay sharp for his next races in the Pro Series.  He is also qualified to compete in the SCCA National Championships in September at Road America. He has 3 wins and a 5th place in his 4 National races this year.
